It's never a good feeling when you notice a warning light appear on your dashboard while you're driving. INDICATOR LIGHTS VS. WARNING LIGHTS

There are actually two different types of lights that appear on your dashboard and it's important to know which is which. Indicator lights simply keep you informed of something that you should be aware of and the situation isn't dire. Warning lights let you know that there is a problem that requires your immediate attention, which most likely requires a Nissan professional. Knowing the differences between these lights will better prepare you in the future.

NISSAN ALTIMA INDICATOR LIGHTS

Front Fog Light Indicator
This light is letting you know that that your front fog lights have been activated.

High Beam Indicator Light
When this light appears, it's acknowledging that you've activated your high beams.

Malfunction Indicator
This light will turn on for two reasons. The first one is that it's letting you know that there may be an issue with your emission control. The second, and most common reason that the light is on, is that your fuel cap is loose or missing.

Security Indicator
When this light blinks, it's simply letting you know that your vehicle's security system is operational.

Slip Indicator
When your Vehicle Dynamic Control system activates, this light will appear to let you know.

NISSAN ALTIMA WARNING LIGHTS

Anti-Lock Braking System Light
If this light appears, it means that your ABS is not working properly. It's recommended that you have this system checked by your authorized Nissan dealer.

Charge Warning Light
If you see this light appear, it means there is an issue with your charging system. Pull over and check to see if the generator belt is loose or broken. If so, contact your Nissan dealer. Do not continue to drive the vehicle.

Low Tire Pressure Light
Your Tire Pressure Monitoring System will turn this light on if it senses that one or more of your Nissan Altima's tires is underinflated. In this situation, it's recommended that you reduce your speed and pull over to the nearest gas station and refill your tire to the factory recommended PSI. Once you've filled the tire, you need to drive at least 16 mph to turn the TPMS back on.

Master Warning Light
This light has a multitude of meanings. It could mean anything like low fuel, trunk open, loose fuel cap or low windshield-washer fluid. Stop in to your local Nissan dealer and have your system checked to identify the problem.
